What is voltage?

Voltage is the difference in electric potential between the two terminals of a component in an electric circuit. Voltage is required for an electric current to flow.

Voltage is measured in volts (V). It is often called potential difference or electromotive force. Voltage can be direct (DC) or alternating (AC).

What is current?

Electric current is a physical quantity that measures the amount of electric charge passing through a conductor during a time interval. It is expressed in amperes (A).

What is a current?

An electric current is a flow of electric charges moving through a conductor. It is caused by the difference in electric potential (voltage) between two points in an electric circuit. Current is measured in amperes (A) and can be direct (DC) or alternating (AC).

What is resistance?

The unit of measurement of resistance in electricity is the ohm. Resistance dissipates electrical energy (it opposes the electric current) and turns it into heat.

Resistance is the ability of a material to oppose the flow of electric current. It is measured in ohms (Ω). Resistance depends on the nature of the material, its length, its cross-section and its temperature.

What is power?

Power is the amount of electrical energy consumed or produced by an electrical device per unit of time. It is measured in watts (W). Power can be calculated from voltage and current using the formula P = V x I, where P is the power, V is the voltage and I is the current.

Converter usage example

To convert electrical values, enter the two known quantities in the first two fields. The converter automatically calculates the other values. Concrete example: you know a voltage of 120 V and a power of 3000 W, and you want to determine the current. Set the first two fields to Voltage and Power, then enter 120 and 3000. Just set a result field to Current to get the value in amps. The current appears automatically in one of the result fields.
