What is a leap year?

A leap year has 29 days in February, compared to 28 days in other years. This extra day appears every four years, counting from a leap year.

Why add a day to February in leap years?

In our calendar (the Gregorian calendar), a year has 365 days. But the Earth's revolution around the Sun takes a little longer. Over the years, a gap builds up. The leap year corrects this gap.
