Calculate the Logarithm of a Number
This calculator quickly computes the base-10 logarithm of a number.
Several logarithms
There are several logarithms depending on the base used. For example, there is a base-10 logarithm, a base-2 logarithm… Another logarithm, called the natural logarithm, can also be used. Its base is e (e ≈ 2.7).
The purpose of this tool is to find the common logarithm, in base 10.
Base 10
The base-10 logarithm can be written as log10 or just log. So log(100) means we are looking for the result of the logarithm in base 10.
How the logarithm is calculated
To find a logarithm in the form logBase(Number), ask yourself the following question: Number is Base to what power?
Example of a logarithm calculation
How do we find log10(100)?
We ask ourselves: 100 is 10 to what power?
In other words, we must solve the following equation: 10x = 100.
The solution of the equation is x = 2, because 102 = 100.
Therefore, the result of log10(100) = 2.
Negative numbers
The number can never be negative. If it is, it is impossible to calculate the common logarithm.
